Q: Who can take the survey?
A: If you have tested positive for XMRV (or related human gamma retroviruses) by any means (e.g. research study, commercial laboratory), we invite you to complete the survey. Parents of children under the age of 18 and caregivers for those who are too ill to complete the survey unassisted may complete the survey on their behalf.
Q: Do I have to complete it all at once?
A: No. This survey can be taken all at once or you can return and finish at any time. When you are ready to take a break, click on the "Save and continue survey later" text at the top right of the survey screen. You will be prompted for your email address, and sent an automatic email with the link to finish your survey at a later time.
Q: What is the best way to view the survey?
A: Depending on the size of your monitor/screen and the browser you are using, you may need to enlarge or shrink the text size while viewing the survey so that the columns on the far right remain visible. Click CTRL +/- if you are a Windows user or Command +/- if you are a Mac user. The survey software works best using Firefox, Chrome or Internet Explorer. Safari users may have to make more screen adjustments.
Q: Can I move backward while taking the survey if I want to change an answer?
A: Yes. But you will need to have cookies enabled. If not, you will lose your work when you hit the back button. For instructions on how to enable cookies, visit: how to enable cookies.
Q: Will you share my email address with anyone?
A: No. We will not have access to your email address. The "Save and continue survey later" function is an automated feature of the survey software.
Q: Should I be concerned about privacy?
A: No. In order to stop people from taking the survey multiple times, your IP address will be logged; however, we will not share your IP address with anyone, and we will not use it other than for the stated security reasons. If you are concerned about revealing your IP address, we advise setting up a proxy server. Instructions on how to do this can be found here: http://www.linquist.net/geek/proxy.
Q: How/when will we see the results?
A: Go to the XMRV Positive Survey blog to read about the latest results. The map at the top of this page will also be periodically updated to show the location of participants (blue dots).
